girls run the world

Founded in 2017, Girls Run the World (GRTW) is an annual program empowering young leaders aged 18-25 with the unique opportunity to live a day in the life of an embassy staff member.

Working closely with embassy staff, a GRTW participant’s day might include discussing humanitarian issues, meeting with the ambassador, planning agendas for an upcoming business delegation, or running the social media for the Embassy.

Through experiencing embassy work first hand, participants are able to form connections within the field as they move towards achieving their goals.

GTRW’s success has seen the initiative expand to include over 30 participants across 15 embassies.

Due to restrictions involving the COVID crisis, this year’s program has been pushed to late January/early February 2022. In lieu, GRTW will be hosting a number of lead-up events in October, November/December, and January.

Our goals for the takeover day in early 2022 include:

  • Cross-cultural sharing of knowledge and exposing young women to diplomacy
  • Exposing embassies to a wider audience in the Australian community and helping them make a positive social impact by empowering women
  • Placing young women in situations where they are empowered to make, influence, or inform a decision within the Embassy and thus develop specific leadership skills.
