1. Gamification and Motivation with Kerstin Oberprieler

The information on this page is also available in podcast form! You can listen on our host platform here, or on your preferred podcast platform including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Our first podcast episode is with Kerstin Oberprieler, the co-founder and CEO of PentaQuest. PentaQuest specialises in employee engagement through gamification, which is the use of game mechanics and experience design to engage users to solve problems. Gamification takes game mechanics such as goals, avatars, and points to influence behaviour.

Kerstin credits her interest in gamification to her love of teamwork, psychology and commerce background, and her experience at Australian consulting firm ThinkPlace. After using gamification while at ThinkPlace, Kerstin undertook a PhD in Gamification. Realising the value gamification had to offer, Kerstin started PentaQuest to help other companies reap the benefits.

While PentaQuest helps companies use gamification for large processes or teams, gamification can also be used by an individual to enhance motivation and engagement in many different areas. You can use gamification in areas of your life such as exercise and study! Anything that can be measured can be turned into a game!

Even ticking off items on a list (lists are progress bars!), using a fitness watch or app to track your progress and reward yourself, or measuring your savings goals using a visual is using gamification.
